This was the era of Spectre, a tank game that utilized AppleTalk networking for multiplayer, as well as Myst and Marathon. Microsoft acquired the developers of Marathon and then proceeded to create the Halo franchise, which is a bit of a similar concept and one of the most popular games of all time. Rather than the Macintosh being a platform that was meant to be accessible to everyone, Scully wanted to focus a bit more on the business community. The top-end models were reserved for professional workloads.
To say that this is a staggering difference would be a massive understatement, but a true one nonetheless. And even if developers were to change this and start implementing support for macOS, it would still take a couple of years until games supporting macOS become a widespread thing. To add to this, the software side is only one part of the puzzle — hardware is an issue for Mac gaming, too.
This is pretty obvious, but just to put things into perspective, here are a few examples. Apple aims to make MacBooks as thin and light as possible, and that does impose certain restrictions on how far you can go with powerful hardware. A prime example is the Intel Core i9 scandal when Apple tried to push an extremely powerful processor in a slim chassis.
The result? Thermal throttling issues all around and a forced firmware update to put things under control again. RAM is, of course, not an issue, especially when you factor in that Apple allows you to spec it with up to 1. You may be right about Windows apps vs. OS X apps.. I added that point in retrospect, perhaps biased after using primarily Mac for the past 6 or so years.
Would you argue the converse? Assuming you mean design tools like Photoshop, … yes, unfortunately I have kept Virtualbox Win7 around for that reason primarily. Hopefully someday. Also apps like InDesign, Illustrator, and Coda.. I switched from over 10 years of Windows experience to Linux a few years ago and, although it was a struggle, I have no regrets.
Thanks for the insight, Dan! I agree with your logic and know people who similarly switched from Windows to Linux. Overall they are happy, but as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, there is a serious lack of suitable design software for Linux.
So will keep your encouragement in mind when I get to that point :. Yes I agree about El Capitan. I currently have I tried El Capitan for a day and I downgraded mainly because TotalFinder is not compatible any longer.
Another issue I discovered is that on my Windows Bootcamp the mouse and keyboard were not recognized any longer. The problem now is that latest updates from Sketch need the newer version of OSX. This one seemed to work with El Capitan. Yeah as alluded to in the post, even Yosemite was a step above El Capitan.
I can imagine that going back to Mavericks would be even better, but personally I try to avoid rolling back on anything. Totally agree about TotalFinder. After using that wonderful app for years and then losing it with Anyway, those are the ones I remember. Because, Apple. Thanks for sharing your list, Mike. Hopefully someone out there at Apple is listening to the people who currently use their products. I used Macs from and switch to Windows in Then back to Mac in I am a clean freak.
I do manual backups. This way I know exactly what I backup and where. No hidden this or leftover that gets transferred to my backup drive. But still. My late Mac mini was in the shop 3 times with board failure in the first 9 months!!! I owned that white plastic laptop and it started to fall apart weeks after I got it. Almost every time when I listened to music, opened PDF files, etc. Never again. But if you love it, please go on.
Windows does, OSX does, Linux does. But not a PC because it is just hardware. Boy are u stupid? I work in software. I will tell you why I will never pay for an apple computer. None of them, at any price, can run hard core video games! PCs, just watch a youtube video, order a twenty dollar part from amazon, done.
How to express my thoughts on my macbook pro. Utter total shit. By the 2nd year it began to fail on me, by the 3rd year its a slow ass mess that cant open shit. So done with Macs for good. I now have a Macbook Pro. It cost about the same as a high end Del. I used to own Dell precisions.. It does feel nice to touch, and feel solid.
It is no better than the dell Precision for the same price, not is it worse. Who you kidding. But they tell me, that windows and linux are bad, why they use this special shortcut?
Man, i really want to dump my apple mac. But ive been caught in the trap. One recall they didnt tell me up front then the HD packed up. But make it good, cos my samsung may get upset!!!! Mr Jobs, im on your case!!!
In ten years I have never gotten one virus on a mac…just saying. Also if you click anything with two fingers on the touchpad it works just like right click,…idk why people keep saying there is no way to right click. But the viruses they do are significantly nastier than other normal ones. I loaned my friend some money to buy a macbook pro because his got stolen some time ago, and quite honestly the only reason he is getting it is because he wants to seem more trendy and cool, and yeah he is under the idea that macs get less viruses….
The fact is MAC exploited the market. They convinced hoopleheads that the MAC was a better system by putting money into advertising. Now I have a boss with no understanding of managing IT infrastructure, but wants the easy votes by buying supposedly flash hardware for our users. Guess who gets stuck with managing these shitbag laptops that dont integrate properly with windows?
Guess who gets stuck with the bill for parrallels software to run the goddam windows systems we need? What a joke. Fuck John Lennon for coming up with the name. Fuck Steve Jobs for his carpet-bagging. Oh, and fuck the Taliban. I have an apple mac pro here for repair. It has a flashing folder on a white screen. Took the hard disk out of this very expensive machine and find its the cheapest Seagate drive available, seen this in a few apple computers.
Took a look at the ram and thats from a cheap manufacturer also. Any how, the drive is goosed but worse than that the sata cable connecting hte drive is also goosed. The case is a fine piece of work and has to be the most expensive part of the machine.
Truely, and not to offend, The people I know that did shell out for the prime Mac Pro 10 years ago, Live in denial. In the same time span, you could have replaced your PC at least every 2 years.
If you could upgrade OS-X, then your old Graphics choice was probably now unsupported. AND honest to god, this guy is still right. Mention OS-X is just Linux and they will start talking about who knows what. And a broken XNU linux too, :p. The reason Mac sells so well is because the average office user is a dumbass. Because it runs on alien file extensions. Not because it is more secure.
The number one thing about apple products I dont understand is the price, the pricing is just ridiculous and for something that has no compatibility. I dont see how the company is doing so well, would figure people would avoid them like the plague due to cost alone.
Much easier to have to learn an entire vocabulary of commands. Screw Apple and screw OS X. I agree the other problem with mac a new program comes out sorry it only works on Everything Jerry describes in the article I experienced. I was astonished at how complicated the MAC was and what a relief it was to get back to Windows. Honestly, I was shocked. I agree Mac has many problems but Windows is a fading technology and apple a premium one. I wish windows were half as good but unfortunately there is no comparison.
Apple suck, but The PC alternative is ridiculously shittier. Macs are sold just like if they were art pieces. I always thought they are only empty, useless and well-cut so expensive flat alluminium boxes. Apple wants to be the Mercedes of computers. If you want one you need to spend 3 times to buy one. Unfortunately windows is the fading technology And apple has become the premium brand for everyone.
Windows is the fading technology? Open your eyes, dude! Do you have any questions? The rest is with little exceptions Windows.
Sure u can make a GTR much faster on a track than a Ferrari with a fraction of money!!! I do know what Ferrari is all about drove them. First class engine, first class electronics, first class leather, Formula 1 technology, etc. But that was about Ferrari only let alone Bugatti cars. Not about Apple products. I hate Mac for being so cheap. Too cheap for me. I want to waste more money. One major selling point of windows is the versatility. You can dedicate as much as you want to it to fit your budget.
Rich or poor the PC caters for all. Haha self entitled Mac-douche. For far less than the price of your crappy underpowered Mac, I can get a way better desktop, and a way superior laptop. Ferrari, on the other hand, is expensive but the product is actually GOOD. Not to mention their graphics card is total garbage, 8gb of RAM.. Totally ridiculous. Being an enthusiast pc builder, I can tell you that Mac is just a huge scam. Expensive would not be a problem if they worked my old pc did much more than i can do on this expensive piece of shit.
Well, I just bought an Alienware 13 today, which is probably overpriced compared to other gaming PCs, but I like Dell so why not. I got the following: core i7 U 2. I started snickering. Keep drinking da cool aid Apple Fanboys. I have a youtube video of a laptop I built that boots from dead off to a Windows desktop in 3 seconds.
A Mac will never touch that. I do own a Macbook Pro. The is the only reason I have a Mac, and the primary reason why I hate Apple.
I totally agree with everything that this article points out wrong about macs. And i dont have anotehr computer to use. Oh, I feel sorry for them. Hope they will switch on their brains one of these days. The SSD drive macs have are not all that good, they are like experimental hard-drive and are not good for storing data. It would be a sin for gaming. Like you, i wanna puke when people brag about apple products.
I have had both macbooks and iphones, and never again I will use either. BS products for idiots. Well it crashes that easily just because you mac fanboys are too stupid to use a REAL computer….
Next, mabuk is drunk. Only stupid people like you will do destruction and causes fucking haze which then affects other countries. Selfish prick. Apple does suck, nevertheless: Apple sucks less, Linux sucks the least while MS still sucks, even with windows 10 which I use extensively throughout my work day. We need a unified standard to protect consumers from big corporate BS of blocking one another for the sake of profitability and killing the competition.
Call me crazy but they all suck. I usually dont pitch in for these debates, but I guess being a macbook air user, I would toss in my two cents. I code a lot, for a ratio, I like this screen better than any other 13 inch. Macs are durable, I have dropped mine so many times and it goes on like I didnt drop it at all.
Have I used windows? Sure, the clickiness of it all makes me nauseous. Did I use Linux? Apple has got its engineering right folks — it has a rugged laptop standing 12 hours of charge. Windows machines do not have the same level of engineering. Apple may be overpriced in iPhones, or macbook pros, but macbook air, I can assure you for any serious programmer it is a great laptop. PS — I know the missing control key on keyboard can be a pain if you are emacs user, but I use vim so thats a non issue.
It runs OSX better than an equivalent Mac. As my school district is run by hateful bastards, they spent probably a million-ish buying MacBook Airs. For five large high schools. Because they hate people. No surplus, no anything. I accidentally broke a milligram of plastic off of one of the arrow keycaps, and thus rendering it unable to stay on. Ever notice how MacBook sheeps have absolutely no idea what specs their wonderful MacBooks have yet carp on and on about great they are?
At dollars which is the average price for a MacBook I would expect touchscreen, at least gb hard drive , and a graphics card with dedicated memory. A SSD is different from a hard drive.. I would never buy a Crapple.
No matter how much money I had. This article is spot on! Macs are over priced trash. People always complain about their computers being rife with viruses on pc. Otherwise, you get a pc and they last and work fine. Macs are dumbing down the computer market and keeping people away from their responsibility to actually understand how computers work.
Once you get over the build quality you realize they are just expensive eye candy. Keyboard cable too short, no right click, I had to go on the internet like a retard and ask how do you open the cd tray. But the biggest problem is the freeware, I only found blender, wavepad and audacity for mac and only audacity works on a few of the macs, on the others i had to install a basic mini version, also when you launch audacity, and quit it you have to reboot the computer to launch it again!!
So i said screwit Ill install linux , no good, macs dont allow that! I think these macs are like expensive sports cars, yes, they look cool but after a while you realize, they gave poor gas mileage, no trunk space they ride bad, your insurance is throw the roof, and every cop with a radar gun and car thief is following you. Ill just scrap these macs for the aluminum, at least Ill get some good out of them!!!
Apple has taken advantage of the fact that processing is far less time consuming than reading from a hard drive or even ssd. As such apple compress their memory. It just creates a paging file once you hits it limits. Right click works in minecraft at least the default mouse has some shitty ball and just left click and some strange side buttons which seem useless. This is funny. I just bought a Mac 2 months ago, and i love it. My windows that i bought in 09 fucking sucked.
It has so many viruses and i was tired of getting it fixed every year. My husband also has a Macbook from 09 and it still works like the first day he got it! Sorry, but this article sucks. You are worse than a child trying to prove why xb1 is better than ps4. Its all in what you want. Macbook also has a right click on the touchpad its called two fingers..
Windows is stupid, so many fuckin updates every time you log on. I guarantee you, you will not have your windows computer 6 years from now. You are exactly the sort of person who Mac want you to buy their products.
Do you go to coffee shops to show it off too! Have fun with your toy. Hope it was worth all that money. I can be sure if your using a Mac or a PC you personally will not be doing anything life changing with it.
Your points are useless. Do your homework next time. Funny thing, i bought my first computer 11 years ago. It was windows Xp. It is faster then any mac i have used and is still a gem, it will never go down. Ok so they just gave you 10 reasons that mac is literally the worst computer available and you still think mac is good. You must have used your windows computer only for downloading viruses. And the UI is soooo bad like literally right when you get used to using a mac they update it and make it completely different so you have no clue how to do anything on your computer.
These are the mac fanboys I love. How is this logical in your mind? You cannot compare two entirely different priced computers complaining that the cheap one is not up to par. Did you ever buy anti-virus and install it on your PC? I always do and yes virus can leak through from time to tome but I always get rid of them myself. If i wanted to watch a blu-ray ill get a blu-ray player or better yet just watch it on a console.
Enjoy paying for windows 10 in a year or 2. You just disproved your point. Its like saying. This paint is better and drys faster. Especially if your trying to justify why you bought a Mac. Mac is not good. Agree with the author who wrote this page. I feel that they are only good at making stuff really expensive, suing you to buy it using advertisement or stuff in youtube. One point to know is that I like the part that macs can switch screen and have several features to multitask.
I really regret buying a Macbook Pro. The best thing this piece of crap can do is crash and freeze all the goddamn time. You could probably get something better for less than half the price. Have been trying to find a corporate accounting program. Only account online. Then I bought the most expensive Architectural program. Then there is all the sites I am using in my business sensitive information with US and canadian Gov.
Nope Not comparable. Then I have a sophisticated tracing program that record and send information back to us regarding Equipment performance and condition so we know when something is malfunctioning before the equipment breaks down. Then there is the so called. Word processing program??? It is total junk garbage and all it is good for is an anchor. Right, the person who wrote an article on MacBooks 6 years ago, is an idiot, for saying they had no right click, and you, six years later, pointing out this setting, are not the idiot?
I bought a macbook air 1. It felt good for some time but now i really miss my Linux where everything was up to me. I decided to buy a really powerful machine for nearly same price with my MBA and go back to Linux. I think OSX have nothing superior to Linux besides iOS development which you can do with a virtual machine once you have better hardware.
As they went mainstream they started to focus on marketing that image while reducing costs, leading to the travesty that they are today: a computer for the uneducated masses that are too afraid to actually analyze their needs and get the right tool for the job. They rely on narcissism, vanity, fear and ignorance. Seriously, none of the people at our company can actually describe why they prefer to use mac.
You can always build a PC for half the money. I have never ever had a problem with PCs. Has anyone ever looked in the preferences on Ubuntu and Linux Mint, etc? They look exactly the fucking same. So to everyone complaining on how it takes extra clicks to do things, take a look at you preferences. Ever try changing a setting with the windows control panel in the default view with the categories?
It is extremely difficult. I also have a late iMac that runs extremely well to this day. I used MLpostfactor to bring it up to Still gets security updates. That is over 9 years of use, and it still runs good. You can run windows. Typical windows users- afraid to try something new. Run Windows? I am curious about Ubuntu. Is it compatible with most things out there? What a ripoff this was when new! The Dock is poorly organised and inferior to all versions of Windows.
It should take up a whole line, not be centred and have screen space either side of it, and there should be an indication of which programs including windows are open, and which program is the current active program. The whole resizing of windows options are simply pathetic.
I want to be able to maximise a program I am using to take up all available screen space, but I still want to see the menu bar, with the time, and the dock no matter how shitty it is , but that is no simple task. Often you just have to manually resize windows, which is slow and pathetic. But honestly, the biggest problem I have is the keyboard, which is inadequate and slows my productivity even for basic word processing.
The key functions, keyboard layout and keys that were left out, because some idiot thought simplicity is cool is frustrating. Here are the problems in detail: 1. Command key is poorly positioned next to the keyboard, requiring some RSI inducing hand movements for many shortcuts. Just try doing that one handed and tell me how natural it feels! Enter return does not open selected files, but gives you the option to rename. Which idiot thought renaming files would be more common than wanting to open a file?

October 13, Apple, decide. I completely agree. Imagine this: I moved to another country recently. I have a new credit card from the local bank.
Apple will not allow me to add this credit card to my account, because it is not coming from my former home country. I cannot change my country because I have an active iTunes Match that I would have to cancel first.
Guess what, you cannot cancel iTunes Match, you can only select to not renew it! As a result: I will not be able to make any purchases from Apple for the next 8 months, because this is when my iTunes Match subscription ends and this is when I can change my country. This sucks soooooo much, that I can only laugh.
I am so glad I have bought a new Surface Pro 3. Less apps, but also much less controlled by the dark side of the force. Well, just as an update for , let me tell you that Apple, with iOS 8, sucks real, real bad now. My original iPad Mini has become close to unusable since iOS 8. Mail app crashes to the Springboard while composing.
Transferring a photo album between two iOS devices without going through the Internet or a Wifi router? Seems outright impossible. The first month I had a few. I re-launch the app, and everything is back. I have an iPad 2 not an Air, but an original that is 4 years old. I am running iOS 8. It runs quite well — I even play video games on it. What other company even supports a device that is 4 years old?
How much free space do you have on your iPad Mini? I wrote this article way back when iOS 5 came out. That was horrible. They are promising iOS 9 will focus more on quality. They are not going to cram in as many features as with iOS 8. Most of the problems I have are due to my Internet connection. If you look at customer satisfaction, they lead the industry. Almost all animations are choppy as hell. Buttons need seconds to respond to taps. No luck. Sometimes, trying to call from my iPad using my iPhone will just fade the screen briefly out and back in with no error message whatsoever.
This is all on iOS 8. It seems like all of these problems you have are due to WiFi issues. That may explain why most users are not facing these issues. I bought an AirPort Extreme — no more problems. I have been getting the same issues as AlwaysComplaining and it is not a router issue. I use an iPad Retina and have no issues but when I use my iPhone 6 plus my wifi fluidity is disturbed. I get constant apps freezing for a second or two and speed tests run between both devices I constantly run at half speed with iPhone and always full speed with iPad.
Apple claims they fixed the wifi issue but I am not completely sold that it is software instead of hardware. They certainly seem to be rushing from venture to venture and cheapening the Apple experience. It could be a defective WiFi module. I have an iPhone 6 and get the same Speedtest results as on my Mac and iPad. If you compare vehicles just by its carrying capacity and horsepower, get the truck. And reduce its weight to get a overpowered dual-v8 car.
But you cant drive a truck to the hotel lobby. You need a car. This is the reason between Desktops and Laprops as well as Tablets and Phones. They have their specific uses. But you get what you pay for. Just seems stupid. Yes, I found a key shortcut for cycling through all the open windows, but it chokes when it gets to my Emacs window…emacs captures the keystrokes. More silliness. Linux offers a variety of user interfaces, some of which are copies of OS X, like Macbuntu and others.
The UI is just the shell and can be changed. All of the menu commands can be displayed regardless of window size. I actually prefer it to Windows.
There is a disadvantage. If you have multiple windows open, you need to click on the window once to focus it and display the menu bar.
The last version of Windows I used XP had this same issue. You had to click once to focus it, and then you could access a menu item. If you have a trackpad, you just swipe three fingers up and get a birds eye view of all open windows and desktops. It must be a great feature, because Microsoft copied it in Windows Note that I did buy my first Apple product this year, an iPad Air 2. Cuz I wanted a tablet with a aspect ratio to read PDFs , and the few Android tablets with that a.
A new Samsung design came out, which I was eagerly awaiting, but they made terrible design decisions weak CPU, extremely thin at the cost of terrible battery life. We were particularly keen on the claimed well presented output that Apple publicity suggested we would get. In many ways we have not been disappointed but in one particular area we have been very much let down by Apple.
When printing emails, especially emails with graphics anywhere in the email, OS X Mail will from time to time put a page break in the middle of a line of text, putting the top half of the line of on one page and the bottom of the line on another page see image below.
This problem occurs whether printing to a physical printer or to pdf. Apple Care have told us that there is no way to prevent this problem, and that we will have to wait and see if it is fixed in a future version of the program… We frequently are involved in contracts etc where an email trail is a key bit of information, and it is hugely frustrating and embarrassing that we cannot control the output so that the text is all readable.
It appears that OSX Mail has decided that the page break will come at exactly the place the page it wants to, irrespective of whether that chops a line in half or not. So, if you need to print out emails in a form that can be read and does not make you look professionally inept, think twice before choosing Apple. Their stock apps are terrible. Of course, this may not be an ideal solution for everyone. Check out Thunderbird. I still think OS X is a great operating system.
I have used OS X for about 7 years and have not once had a system crash. This was when I worked for a Fortune company that had just about every security measure in place. You can install different email clients, as well as substitutes for other stock apps.
The teams that develop their stock apps are staffed with mediocre developers. Some of their products are excellent, and others are deeply flawed. They keep their top talent working on the most critical products. Companies like Apple hire average developers to create their stock apps.
The software that comes bundled with OS X and iOS is not much better than the free software that comes with a Dell or other Windows systems. I also like the quality of Apple devices. I have owned a lot of Windows machines, and most of them are just so chintzy. I feel like buying a Windows machine is a roll of the dice. Buying a Mac is a slam dunk.
Add in the way Apple treat their customers, though: just remember the way they killed iWeb on them, huge amounts of peoples work just gone. They just suck. I may have to revisit this article with an update. Besides the highly publicized flaws in iOS 9. Ever since iOS 8, Apple has offered users very buggy releases.
If these were inexpensive products created by some fly-by-night startup, I could understand it. This is the largest corporation on the planet and they charge a premium for their products, presumably because they are of higher quality than the competition.
They have been doing some sneaky things lately. They pulled the plug on free iTunes radio. It now requires an Apple Music subscription.
One of the top commenters on this site returned his Apple TV 4 because of this. I tried Apple Music but canceled it because it was too buggy. In the three months I used it, it seemed to get worse. My iPad 2 is continually crashing. For Apple to succeed, they need to create a new, breakthrough product like the iPhone that everyone will want to buy. Instead, they are fiddling around with the size of existing products developed when Steve Jobs was in charge.
The homogeneity of UIs makes some sense. The cadre of hardcore Apple fans may continue to buy their products. They are iSheep and will buy anything Apple puts out and claim it is the best thing in the world.
A device like Apple TV is fairly simple. It is highly specialized, less complex, and therefore should have fewer defects. I went to the download screen and noticed it already had 85 5-star ratings after just two days in the App Store.
All it does is play Apple Events. The problem is, most people who buy an iPhone, their most popular product, are not iSheep. If their iPhone is buggy, they may very well switch to another smartphone. The vast majority of Apple customers are not loyal to the company. They are not iSheep. Maybe this is what it will take for them to wake up and smell the coffee. Apple needs to invest more in QAT, stop cramming so many useless features into releases and fix defects. If they did that, one could honestly justify paying more for an Apple product.
I am personally dismayed that I no longer have a high quality option for computers and electronics. I had been happily using itunes All I use itunes for is to download certain podcasts.. While the world focuses on the the latest gee-whiz…perhaps the basics of the value proposition should receive a bit more attention. Their devices are amazing. Mac OS X is rock solid. Trying to make the iPad a professional device is pointless as long as it runs this limited mobile operating system.
For me, I stick with their devices and operating systems, but look elsewhere for content. There are numerous Podcast apps that are superior to anything Apple has to offer. They are better than the trial ware one would get with a new PC. Google, for example, makes some of the best iOS apps. Apple is a huge corporation.
Large corporations have very complex and regimented engineering processes. These processes work well for building large projects — devices and operating systems.
They are unable to quickly resolve defects. Reminders still has a sync bug that has been a problem for 3 years. Apple also has difficulty attracting top talent. They do hire some talented engineers, but they are assigned to work on their top-selling products.
Furthermore, top talent in the Valley want a lot of equity. A six figure salary is not enough. A few stock options with high strike prices are not enough. The top people in the Valley start their own companies. The next tier work at small startups.
Given the difficulty of hiring top talent, priorities come into play. The iPhone is their most important device. These endeavors get the best engineers. My take on all of this is to buy their devices and use their operating systems. I look elsewhere for apps. For example, I do not use Apple Music. I use Spotify. I tried Apple Music and it was too defective.
There were 30 second audio dropouts. Instead of Reminders, one can use Clear. Instead of iTunes, one can use content portals from Amazon, Google or other corporations.
They still make the best devices and operating systems, in my opinion. I am so upset with apple. Nothing works well anymore. I agree. I find that hard to believe because some of the defects are show stoppers.
OS X is still pretty good. They know what the hardware is and they can test every model. If they can no longer deliver quality, customers like me may just buy another brand of computer, smartphone or TV appliance.
I was so upset last night. My Internet connection went out, so I decided to listen to some downloaded music using AirPlay. But every minute, the sound would cut out. It seems that my iPad was continually running some process trying to login to the iTunes Store? They must have drastically reduced the buffer size.
Gotta love a device with 64 GB of storage, but no buffer for AirPlay. If I walk in between my Apple TV and router, the audio will cut out. This never happened with my previous Apple TV 2.
Someone I know on social media says his Airport Express will have AirPlay audio drop outs when he uses his computer. No one wants choppy music or multimedia just because you load a web page.
The irony is that Tim Cook really went after Forestall for Maps. He was supposed to sign a letter that he acknowledged that the product was deeply flawed. It was all political, as Forestall was gunning for CEO.
Tim Cook is quite tolerant of poor quality, unless it is from someone competing for the CEO position. Forestall would have made a better CEO. He gets it. Tim Cook is a marketing guy. He thinks he can sell anything with the right marketing. I also have to think the engineering budget pales in comparison to marketing. Apple has become all about marketing mediocre products.
They use marketing to sell flawed products as if they exhibit high quality. The iPhone is a really well-made smartphone. Apple TV has great hardware, and that Siri Remote is amazing albeit fragile.
I still have my iPad 2, which has been hobbled by iOS 8. Unfortunately, it is incredibly buggy and dead slow. Some of it can be recycled, but that takes resources and energy.
